Diaz Reus Adds Litigation Talent in Miami and Dubai

MAY 6, 2016 – MIAMI – Global law firm Diaz, Reus & Targ LLP announces the expansion of its international litigation practice, adding attorneys Gayle E. Hanlon in Dubai and Louis V. Martinez and Roland M. Potts in Miami. Hanlon, Martinez, and Potts bring depth and breadth to the firm’s well-established cross-border litigation and arbitration, appellate, and white collar criminal defense practices. The Miami-headquartered firm has 16 offices, world-wide, located in key business centers.

Hanlon, of counsel in the firm’s Dubai Office, is licensed to practice law in New York and the Dubai International Financial Centre courts. She handles extensive and demanding international assignments in areas of dispute resolution, arbitration, mediation, adjudication, and litigation in the UAE and before international arbitral tribunals. She is also has particular expertise in complex transactional issues, including cross-border matters and intellectual property law in the UAE. She possesses an excellent background in M&A, structured finance and securitization, banking, and complex commercial transactions.

Hanlon earned her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law, Denver, Colorado, where she was Law Journal Editor, and her A.B., cum laude, from Stanford University, California. She also completed studies in European Community Law and ECSC Law at Freie Universität in Berlin.

Martinez joins the firm’s Litigation and Arbitration and White Collar Criminal practices in Miami, bringing significant experience in complex cases of health care fraud, mortgage fraud, construction fraud, money laundering, and high-profile criminal defense. He is serving a third term on the Miami Dade Expressway Board of Authority as Chairman. In this role, he is a sought-after legal guest expert for the South Florida media on transportation policy matters.

A former Deputy Chief Assistant Attorney General for the Medicaid Fraud Unit in Florida, Martinez was responsible for the recovery of multiple millions of dollars in criminal restitution orders and more than $20 million in civil recoveries over a four-year period. He has held positions as Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Illinois, where he prosecuted defendants charged with felony offenses, among others. Martinez earned his J.D. from DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois, and B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago.

Potts, an experienced litigator and appellate lawyer, joins the firm’s Litigation, Arbitration, and Appellate practices as an associate in the Miami office. A former associate at Hogan Lovells (Miami) and Lydecker Diaz (Miami), he has an extensive background in representing multinational clients on issues of construction defects, products liability, derivative suits, and breach of contract claims in both arbitration and court proceedings. Fluent in Spanish and English, he also advises on matters in federal and state court regarding the Civil Rights Act, Florida Civil Rights Act, Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, antitrust, attorney malpractice, defamation, and premises liability claims.

Potts earned his J.D. from Florida International University College of Law; an MBA from Florida International University Chapman School of Business, with Honors; and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
