Biography


Ali Awais has more than 20 years of working with top-tier international law firms and multilateral organizations. He is spearheading the corporate, banking and finance practice of the firm and managing teams. Mr. Awais advises banks, investment funds, major corporations, and project sponsors on all aspects of financial transactions including corporate finance, project finance, and Islamic finance. He advises private equity and financial advisory firms in connection with funds structures, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border transactions. Mr. Awais advises major corporations on corporate governance matters in connection with legal requirements that are in-line with international best practices.

Mr. Awais has extensive experience in providing Boards and CEOs strategic advice on investments, growth, and international expansions for business value creation and corporate governance. Mr. Awais inspires leadership skills and has a track record of successful and efficient management and team building. He serves as an advisor to investment banks and private equity funds on corporate and projects investments, mergers and acquisitions, and structured finance transactions including project placements, equity and debt raising, and setting up structured products including investment funds. Mr. Awais serves as specialized legal counsel in international transactions and infrastructure-related project finance including projects involving power, hydroelectric plants, pipelines, municipal water, wastewater treatment plants, highways, and airports. Mr. Awais has organized and executed corporate governance and risk management structures, internal policies, and rules that align with complex regulatory requirements. Before moving to Pakistan, Mr. Awais was a Partner in the Dubai office of Diaz Reus where his practice centered around infrastructure, corporate mergers and acquisitions, banking, and finance. Mr. Awais was previously a Senior Counsel at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. where he actively covered the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia regions which included working as the World Bank’s lead lawyer for putting together strategies for post-conflict countries and frontier markets. Mr. Awais started his legal career with a Wall Street law firm, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in their New York office and he has also worked in top international law firms including Baker Botts LLP (Washington DC and Dubai offices), and Jones Day. Furthermore, he also worked for approximately five years in an investment banking firm located in the Dubai International Financial Centre, where he was the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel.
